The tradition of using a fiberglass fly rod can mean different things to different people and this special run of rods will please all anglers.
Gates AuSable Lodge owner, Josh Greenberg, dreamt up a classic-looking rod that is a throwback of years-gone-by on Michigan’s own Au Sable River. The modern components usher these rods into the modern era with technology advancements such as Epic’s “Fast Glass II” which is some of the easiest-casting glass available; even graphite guys will feel at home with the higher line speed but a smoothess only glass can offer. To culminate the special offering, the design of the rods were created with certain component colors visitors to the area will notice. Even the reel seat insert wood is made from the types of woods common to Crawford County.
The 580, an 8’0″ 5-weight, is a tremendously versatile rod. It can throw dries with delicacy, small streamers effortlessly, and can handle nymph rigs with ease. If you’ve never tried one, head over to Gates on the banks of the Au Sable to try one out. The complete line of rods will be in stock by April 2019. Can’t wait? Please call the fly shop at (989) 348-8462 to purchase the 580 seen below or to hold your spot in line for future builds.
